When Is Rape Okay

When Is Rape Okay

When Is Rape Okay

Yesterday I saw a post on Facebook. I went to the author’s website and found (just for clarification); that when these high school students were asked to answer the questions, it was on a rating scale 0-5. Zero equaled not agreeing at all, therefore symbolic of “NO”. Any rating over zero, would be counted as a “yes”. I just wanted that to be clear before I wrote this, although I don’t think that the number on the scale that each child chose, above zero matters. Allow me just this courtesy…RAPE IS WRONG.

This post had me thinking, past the lump I felt in my throat. I was disappointed in the fact that these young males felt this way; for any man to think it would ever be okay to force sex upon another.  What I found deeply disturbing was that any female would think this behavior was acceptable; why would we think that any situation would make this horrible and vile act appropriate?

Beyond talking to our children about the dangers of strangers; what do we teach them? Do we teach our sons that it is NEVER okay to force anyone to have sex? Or do we think that the logic is implied? At this point, we can effectively come to the conclusion that it is not. Where are our daughters getting their education from? Why would anyone of our young women think that she has no say over her body? Where is the self-respect and honor? Where would our sons develop the mentality that they EVER have the right to force sex on another person?

This posting had my heart feeling heavy. If I learned nothing from the rape of the Steubenville, Ohio teen; I learned that far too many people think that when a woman is drunk or high…that consent is implied, even if she is unable to say no.

To the young men and women who answered “yes”; by responding that it was okay for a man to force a woman to have sex if:

1. He spends a lot of money on her

2. He is so turned on he doesn’t think he can stop

3. She is drunk or stoned

4. She has had sex with others

5. They have dated for a long time

6. She wanted to, but then changed her mind

Allow me to share something with you, rape cannot be changed. Rape is not one moment on a random day/night; rape lasts your entire life. You never forget the feeling of degradation. You never forget the questions that your mind poses, that will never have an answer. Rape is far reaching…no matter what anyone says.

Anytime someone tells you that rape isn’t THAT bad…they are lying. It destroys lives and can permanently destroy the hearts and souls of men and women.

As parents, it is our responsibility to arm our children with the knowledge of love. Respect must be taught…through observation. Our children are watching what we say, do and respond to; our speech must be kind and loving. Keep in mind, we teach our children callousness.

As for these young women, who also participated in this “poll”?

Love yourselves. No one has the right to force sex on you. Respect your body and your decisions; do what is right for you. You do not owe anyone anything; your body is sacred.

We need to change the rules, so we can change our frame of mind. If she/he does not say YES…the answer is no. If she/he says yes, then changes his/her mind…the answer is no. Paying for a meal, present or any other such thing…does NOT purchase him/her sexually. If you are so turned on that you don’t think you can stop…don’t even start. NO matter how long you have known him and no matter what your relationship is…it is always your decision to make.

We must do better. We are assisting in the demise of these young souls, by sitting in silence. We must take a pro-active role in the lives of these young people, who are our future. Rape is not a phase that someone goes through…it is a felony.

Remember my friends, rape is a crime that destroys. Talk to your sons and daughters; do not make excuses, like those made for the rapists in the Jane Doe case in Ohio. Stop placing the victim on trial, when we do this…we are embracing the sexual predator.

While no one wants to think their child is a predator, when we sweep such behavior under the rug…we are breeding it.

Love one another…and please…please stop the insanity.

Walks With Angels

Walks With Angels

Walking with angels

It is that which she does

Smiling and laughing

Filling Heaven with her love

She no longer feels

Hurt or pain

And while I may never

Feel the same

Her time here was over

She needed to rest

Knowing her was a privilege

No doubt I was blessed

No question she honored us

Each day with her smile

This angel God allowed us

 To know for a while

Like clockwork her laughter

Resounds in my ear

When I need her voice

Or just wish she was here

She whispers sweetly

“You are not alone”

I never left your heart…

My permanent home

I couldn’t ever walk

 Away from you

I would have never left…

You know it’s true

However the plans of God

Are never in vain

And while you may think

Things have changed

She went on to say…

God had plans for me

And just knowing you

Gave me wings

Please do not cry

And do not mourn

For you, too,

Will be reborn

It’s like a balmy paradise

Every single day

We smile on those we’ve met

Along the way

Please smile when I

Come to your heart

And know you have been there

From the start

Nothing so beautiful

You could ever have known

As when our Father

Calls us home

While you feel my absence

From your ear

Know that God

Will keep me near

For on your lifelong journey

Which may at times seem bleak

I will always be here by your side

With anything you seek

Don’t worry my love

And don’t feel awry

God is watching over you

And He’s right by my side

So I ask you today

Welcome joy in your heart

Knowing you may not see me…

But we are never apart

Daddy Don’t Go

Daddy Don’t Go

Daddy don’t go

The girl softly cried

I’m coming back

Just another lie

I wonder if he knew

The choices he did make

Would damage a life

A heart he did break

If he had only looked back

Seen that last tear fall

He could have righted a wrong

In no time at all

Maybe if he had been there

She wouldn’t have needed

The attention negative or not

Which abandonment breeded

Her mom was there yes, but

Who can really say

What would have happened

Had he not left that day

Our daughters are precious

We must try and understand

Their fathers help create

Their future’s floor plan

For Daddy when you leave

Someone else will step in

And since you weren’t there

No telling how it will end

Are you responsible for others…no

But from the very start

You were supposed to be there for her

And that fragile little heart

When you stepped out on mom

You walked away from this sweet girl

Who loved you every single day

You were her entire world

So when she now makes choices

As we sometimes tend to do

Remember her greatest teacher

Was supposed to be you

Don’t make this love story

End before it starts

Cause saying “Daddy don’t go”

Even breaks a woman’s heart

An Angels Hands

An Angels Hands

In the darkness it seems

We know all there is to see

Believing our own lies

Those of humanity

Why can’t we wake up

A simple answer is this

It is not our problem

It is hers…it is his

The darkness while inviting

For it preys upon our fears

All the while causing

The pain within our tears

To live in darkness is one thing

Especially if we don’t know

That there is a divine light

Waiting to help us grow

The light is not an illusion

It is the Truth…Path …The Way

It is the road map of our lives

Always been this way

While we claim we are alone

Abandonment all around

The illusion is in the thought

God’s love needs to be found

Oh, my beautiful brother

Love is not contained

It is found in every drop

Of our Creator’s rain

It is found in a sunbeam

It is in the oceans deep and wide

In all points up and down

Backwards…forward…side to side

God’s love need not be sought

It is not a material thing to earn

Just in thinking that

Means there is so much to learn

Love is in the air and water

It is all we eat and drink

It is in an unexpected smile

Love is more than what we think

Love is not a direction yet

Can guide us just the same

Love is not about

Our Savior’s Earthly name

Love is the beginning

Love will be in the end

Love is in an enemy

Just as a loving friend

Love is the exception

To all rules which we know

It exists in a year long drought

Yet still thrives in a winter’s snow

Love is the only reason

We were sent here to be

It’s the hope of the future

Endless possibilities

Love can mend bridges

Can mend a broken heart

It is and was all things

From the very start

So while you think it hopeless

I will give this candle to light

To help you see the truth

That what I say is right

No need to listen to me

Your beating heart will speak to you

Hold on to the rhythm

And what it says to do

Go forward and tread lightly

Speak softly in your tones

For the love in which you seek

You have already owned

The darkness is an illusion

We are never left alone

So stop with the anger

Cast aside your stones

Love one another often

It is what Our Lord demands

You will then learn that you

Have been holding an angels hands

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day

Being a mother has been

My biggest blessing

It’s my gift from God

My reason for being

Watching children grow

Is like watching a smile form

Furthering the knowledge

Of why I was born

I couldn’t imagine my life

Absent of my child

For the love of her

Makes life worthwhile

That million dollar smile

Which always kept me going

Lit up my empty life

She not even knowing

I’m humbled forever

By the joy in her face

Further proof of

My Savior’s grace

If you are a mother then

You know what I am saying

Its instant gratification

In watching them playing

Whoever would have thought

Life’s biggest reward

Would be wrapped in

The sweetest voice ever heard

But you won’t hear me complain

About the time which I’ve spent

It’s like having a ring side seat

At every life altering event

God must love me deeper

Than I ever realized

By allowing me the privilege

To gaze into those eyes

So to my fellow mother’s

I wanted to acknowledge your duty

By recognizing it for what it is

A thing of real beauty

You have filled those young minds

Embraced hearts that have grown

Given God’s grace and love

With every kiss you have thrown

Every nurturing embrace

Said so much more than you knew

It healed every time you gave

That external I Love You

I thank you and thank God

For leading me to my way

I love you now and forever

Happy Mother’s Day

The Real Woman Empowerment Project

I know you all have seen my posts about the Real Woman Empowerment Project; and your support has been overwhelming. Over the next few weeks I will be posting about each and every Queen behind the project; they are fabulous women and each and every one should be embraced for, not only the work they are doing within the project…but for the works they do outside of it.

I will begin my introduction to this fabulous group of women with Marsha Snead Williams, who not only created the Real Woman Empowerment Project; but also is also the founder of Sisters of Power, Inc.… both which are very close to my heart.

I hope, in the weeks to come, that you will join me in supporting these fabulous women and their endeavors.
