Walks With Angels

Walks With Angels

Walking with angels

It is that which she does

Smiling and laughing

Filling Heaven with her love

She no longer feels

Hurt or pain

And while I may never

Feel the same

Her time here was over

She needed to rest

Knowing her was a privilege

No doubt I was blessed

No question she honored us

Each day with her smile

This angel God allowed us

 To know for a while

Like clockwork her laughter

Resounds in my ear

When I need her voice

Or just wish she was here

She whispers sweetly

“You are not alone”

I never left your heart…

My permanent home

I couldn’t ever walk

 Away from you

I would have never left…

You know it’s true

However the plans of God

Are never in vain

And while you may think

Things have changed

She went on to say…

God had plans for me

And just knowing you

Gave me wings

Please do not cry

And do not mourn

For you, too,

Will be reborn

It’s like a balmy paradise

Every single day

We smile on those we’ve met

Along the way

Please smile when I

Come to your heart

And know you have been there

From the start

Nothing so beautiful

You could ever have known

As when our Father

Calls us home

While you feel my absence

From your ear

Know that God

Will keep me near

For on your lifelong journey

Which may at times seem bleak

I will always be here by your side

With anything you seek

Don’t worry my love

And don’t feel awry

God is watching over you

And He’s right by my side

So I ask you today

Welcome joy in your heart

Knowing you may not see me…

But we are never apart

I Have Lupus

I Have Lupus

I live with an illness

Other people cannot see

I live in pain and fatigue

Often immobility

I live with an illness

Some people cannot understand

Because it cannot be detected

By the casual glance

I live with swollen joints

Bruising but first

I live with knowledge that

It can get much worse

My hair has fallen out

My eyes swollen shut

But I live with a disease

That doesn’t understand…enough

I am not alone in this fight

There are warriors like me

Who understand what it’s like

To have physical agony

I am a fighter now

I am a warrior because

If I stopped fighting

Gave it a pause

This disease would win

My valiance for naught

I am in this war

I never forgot

I was created from greatness

And greatness is in me

I will struggle with this thing

NO matter what shall be

For the winner of this battle

Gets no trophy or attention

For I fight it inside myself

With the greatest intention

Take no moment for granted

For in a moment of dissention

It could be all stripped away

Without even a mention

Of the facial rashes

Medication and grief

The lack of support

The need for sleep

And while it is hard to understand

What my life would be like for you

I will tell all now that I wouldn’t

Want you to suffer too

Help raise awareness

Look for the Light

God said he would never leave

I know He is right

Join the movement

Raise mental elevation

Link hands with others

Focus your attention

I have a silent disease

That you cannot see

It doesn’t have me

The Reason For The Season

The Reason For The Season

I think that sometimes we can get lost in the commercialization of things this time of year. The proof of that is everywhere we look. Every store or shop seems to have their own idea of how to make the season more festive and memorable than the year previous.

This year, however, has been a little rougher for me than most have been…which I believe is a test of my strength and willingness to submit to the will of our Creator. So I have sat and endured every Christmas cartoon known to man…I have watched store Santa’s posing with pictures of children who would rather be ducking and weaving in and out of a four lane highway. I have watched retailers attempt to make their sales and “bargains” look like what we might want Christmas to be. All of this, isn’t always a bad thing…it’s always nice to see the excitement of children and the hidden secrets that this particular holiday seems to bring.

This year was completely turned around for me…I was all ready to become “Scrooge”. And in my mind, I had reason to. Then something wonderful happened in my life…I experienced the love of God through the heart of my daughter.

First you must understand, she is a teenager…not unlike most teenagers. She wants things, and she knows that there will be things that no matter how much she wants them, or how much I wish I could get them for her…she just won’t receive them. But this brown eyed beauty decided that this year for Christmas she wanted to play Santa Claus for a child on her school’s “Angel Tree”. Keeping in mind that she knew that by us buying for another child meant that her lean Christmas list…just went on a diet. She didn’t care. I remember the day that she was talking to me about it…tears in her eyes. She just wanted to make a child happy for Christmas. And so we went shopping for this sweet 2 year old boy that she didn’t know and would never meet. We got him a few things…which she picked out. She went home and wrapped them and placed them in a giant gift bag and took them to school.

I can not even begin to express to you the joy that I felt through her at that moment. But I can only really think of one comparison which may assist in my lack of descriptive prose. Watching her was like the feeling I would get as a young child coming in from the cold. I would get to drink this giant coffee cup filled with creamy Hot Cocoa…you know the kind I mean…with the foam on the top from the giant melted marshmallow that used to be there. When you drank it, it was like your body was literally thawing out. There were parts of my body that were coming to life that I didn’t even realize were frozen.

My daughter became that for me…a sweet, warm, smiling example of that chocolaty goodness. And the real magic was…she made everyone feel that way. We all laughed and sang songs and smiled at everyone today.

All of this made me think about the saying…the reason for the season; it was like a light bulb came on. The reason for the season…is to give to others that in which we are given. It isn’t about video games or wish lists. It is about reflecting the love that God has given us…and sharing it with everyone else.

It may be true that we don’t have as much as the next person, but what we have is intended to be shared. I always try to remind others of our blessings, because we can get caught up in what we don’t have and we forget what we do have. We may not have tons of presents under the tree, and as true as that is…there will be people who do not have a home to put a tree in…never mind the presents underneath. We may not have a huge Christmas feast, but there are people who will not have food to eat on Christmas at all…or any other day. We will miss those we lost this year and our hearts may weep for them…but there are people who will spend this holiday all alone. Can you imagine living on this huge planet and feeling like you are all alone?

Today my daughter warmed our hearts…by simply opening hers. I hope it is an example that is set not in vain. Reach out for someone today, touch their hearts and don’t be afraid to warm their souls. God only asks that we give to others what HE has given to us…HIS LOVE. It costs nothing to love one another. If the only present you give to someone is your time…it is time well spent. Shine on one another…the reflection is that of our Creator.

**I actually wrote this last year…but I felt it beared repeating…Peace to you one and all

Love Is All We Need

Love Is All We Need

I watched a young girl cry

She was on the news

She spoke of being raped

Battered and abused

She said that he hit her

He caused her to be ashamed

But when tomorrow arrived

It would be more of the same

People were horrified

How could we have missed

When she softly cried

My father did this

Sad but yet true

It happens every day

Our children are mistreated

We throw them away

We act as if they are little adults

Our toys with which to play

Yet ask for more

When we bow down to pray

Why are we shocked

Why are we alarmed

When we turned a blind eye

When she was being harmed

Now it’s gone too far

Because it’s ugly and sorted

It’s easy to believe truth

When it is so distorted

So we are left with broken hearts

Guess what…hers is too

Imagine living with such pain

What was she to do

Watch for the signs

The ones you can’t explain

The quiet…the anger

Which mask further pain

Ask questions of concern

Do not claim it is a lie

Some truths are painful

But don’t let them slip by

She is reaching for your heart

At least give her your hand

Hold her tight and close

Say you will try to understand

For Shame and guilt will find her

They are not hers to ever claim

Stand beside her …head held high

Encouraging her to do the same

For although some scars

Cannot be detected

They can run deeper than you

Might have expected

Stand up on her behalf

Hope is a necessary seed

Know that in our lives

Love is all we need

A Queston of Hope

A Question of Hope

You are out in the scorching sun, for hours. There seems to be no relief in sight; the only comfort is found as sweat trickles down your brow. Not sure of how long you can actually hang on; a thought occurs to you. What if this is my last moment? You are unsure as to how much strength or energy you can muster; worse than that…do you want to go on?

Suddenly you feel it; a cool breeze flowing across your sun weathered skin. You take a deep breath; your soul feels replenished. Although the cool air lasted only a moment; its effects are long lasting. Your strength returns; your step has more bounce in it. How could a single brief blowing, of cool crisp air, change so much? Simply put; you now have hope of greater things. You were intended to survive this thing; and the cool air was our Creator’s way of showing you.

What is hope? Hope is simply the knowledge that better things are ahead. The possibility of brighter days is in store for you. The mere thought that things MAY get better; is enough to keep you going. Why is this important?

This thought is important, because it gives us reason to keep going on. The only task we ever fail at; is the task we fail to complete. Hope is a beautiful gift. We can give it freely, openly and lovingly. Hope is the gift that I am giving you today.

I am not saying that your life may turn out exactly the way you may want it to; but I am saying that the possibilities of your life are endless. There may have been times in your life where you have felt like the world is against you; I can assure you that is not so. Sometimes you just need a reminder that you need to pick yourself up and move forward.

I have known hardship and pain; I have known grief and had health that was failing. My thoughts and remarks are not empty. But through all of my life challenges; I have one constant… this is temporary. Everything on this realm of life is not supposed to last forever. We get to decide to make our lives what we want it to be. We can choose to live a life of love and kindness or we can choose anger and self-pity. Along my journey, I came across a name, Ward Foley.

Mr. Foley is an amazing exhibit of hope and possibility. His nickname is “scarman”; as his body is riddled with scars. Where is the beauty in this? I gladly will share with you; Mr. Foley shines his light on people who live with diseases and illnesses. He has a Face Book page and on it he praises the wonderful people that he reaches out to. He does not speak on; or dwell upon their diseases or illnesses. He simply speaks on how wonderful they are. This wonderful person, who has his own “cross to bear”; smiles and smiles some more; he offers hope through a simple smile. I hope that you all get to visit his website http://www.wardfoley.com . He is a true angel.

Give hope to one another; offer a smile, at the very least. Hope gives us strength.

The possibility of what we could be; far outshines the lesser of what we actually are. We can do more and be more than we could ever imagine. We can put an end to violence; we can create venues where people can help one another. We can start reaching out to our fellow man; regardless of race, creed or religion. We can remember where we came from; before man created so many barriers.

We can love with a purpose; and let that purpose be…so others can receive that love.

Hope is an urgent calling to us all. Hope gives our hearts wings. With hope we can end the cycle of violence; child abuse, domestic violence, rape, incest and battered women and children. With hope we can defy the statistics that say 1 in 3 women will be molested before she is 16 years old. Hope can change the fact that every 15 seconds a woman is murdered by someone who claims to love her. Hope can rise up to the top; it can give love the chance it needs to mend our broken hearts.

I want to give you hope today; and once you peel away those layers, you will find it filled with divine love. I do not live a fairy tale life; I have known travesties. I have felt pain so deep that I was certain I would never heal from it. The truth is, some pain never really goes away; but we get to choose to make it something better. We get to take that pain and make it a spring board for someone else’s pain. We can be the lift up that someone else needs.

While we are doing this we should remember; how we had wished that someone would have tried to make it better for us. Even if all we have to offer is a simple smile; it is something more than doing nothing.

Love every day; give love, be love, and you will be rewarded with hope. Hope is the heartbeat of a soul; it is up to us to keep it going.

We can spend our lives feeling sorry for ourselves; or like “Scarman” Ward Foley; we can give back. We can let go of our frustrations and watch them evolve into hope and possibility, for others. Don’t ever lose sight of the fact; that each day is a gift and each breath is a blessing. Give thanks for the time we have here on earth; touch as many hearts as you can.

In closing, I would add only this; you are my blessing. You help mold and evolve me into whatever I am supposed to be. You help guide me toward the light of our Creator; I am forever grateful. Never give up hope; it will guide you along your path and make you all the richer for it.

I wish you love and peace along your path.

Pay It Forward

Pay It Forward

Today is “National Pay it Forward Day”. I don’t really know what that means to anyone else, since the statement is kind of broad. On one hand it literally could mean that I am going to give you what I have, be it positive or negative. On the other hand, it could mean I am going to pass something on to you monetarily. My preferred depiction of this day is much simpler, yet so complex for some of us…paying it forward means to me…giving you the love and support that I have been/or should have been given today.

Why should we pass something on to another that we haven’t even been given; one might ask. The answer is simple…because all things come full circle. In that respect wouldn’t you rather bountiful love comes greeting you around the next unexpected corner or hate and discourse? I, of course can only speak for myself, but all day…everyday I would choose to give and receive love.

Pay it forward…give something back. Show the world that although things look grim and bleak…we have better things ahead of us.

Yesterday, I posted a piece on my other wordpress site and I stated that love was all we needed, and a kind friend reminded me that love alone isn’t enough. I completely understood what he meant; for he followed it with…we have to be smart too.

Love is the base of all things, it shines…glows…creates peace and builds bridges. The truth is though; even though love is the base…we must construct our existence with what we know, as well. We do things because we care, which is a direct result of love. We should care, because we KNOW that when we are being kind and loving towards people…the reaction is glorious.

Pay it forward today, my friends…and use it as a roadmap for tomorrow. Pass on a smile, an embrace, a concerned conversation and even if you do not directly receive it back to you through that individual…you will be rewarded.

Today I had a heartfelt conversation with someone that had hurt me. But instead of rehashing a conversation that we had already had…I gently reminded them how much I love them…no matter what their life choices. It is my hope that it helped her day, made her smile…and therefore made another smile, too. What is the reward in that? I know God smiled on me, simply for the effort.

We waste so much time on what we need and want that we overlook the larger, much more significant picture. We were brought here to do God’s work…but the real question is…are we doing it? Are we doing what God wants from us? Or are we so caught up in us that we can see no further than ourselves?

Pay it forward today, send someone God’s love…it is what we are supposed to do. We hardly need a national holiday or event to remind us to do what is right…but I will gladly do so.

Pay forward the sunshine of a smile to everyone you see today…and soak up the feeling of joy it gives you when you see a person’s day change.

I love you all and wish you now, as always…peace and abundant blessings.

Are You Ready?

Are You Ready?

When we seek reasons to hate

We find reasons to agree

We don’t all look the same

It’s how we were meant to be

Different tones of our skin

Different textures of our hair

Different eye color and accents

Why do we even care?

I may pray on a rug

While you worship in a pew

Does that mean God loves me

More than he loves you?

If I call Him Creator

While you call Him Lord

Does it mean more or less

What are we fighting for?

Is the land we walk over?

The definition of who we are

Even if we all walk under

The same heaven and same stars

Do you look at me funny

Because I am different than you

Or do you need to exhibit the hate

Which someone released on you?

Often in life we will treat

Others with distaste

Oh the things we have yet to learn

Oh the time that we waste

Your opinions about who I am

The bias you display

Is not about the God you love

But everything you hate

You hate what you fail

To even try and understand

We are supposed to all be different

All part of His plan

It’s silly if you think about it

What can my eyes take from you

It can’t make you more or less

You don’t even have a clue

The judgment we place on others

While we rationalize their cause

Take away from our path

Which always devised by God

He planted every flower

He created every hue

And now you hate me

Because I don’t look like you?

My brother you have more worries

Than your fear of my race

Check the depths of your soul

Before meeting the Creators face

And when that day does happen

I pray you have more to say

Than the ridiculous prejudices

You have shown today

For we are of one race

That would be the human kind

NO other false truth matters

Those truths are in your mind

For there is no room in this world

For the sins within the heart

And if we don’t pull together

We will pull our lives apart

God loves all His children

When will we get it right

We are all beautiful

In our Creator’s sight

So set aside your battle gear

Ease up on your vicious tones

We all have the same destination

Are you ready to go home?
